The SBSP promotes the economic development of small Illinois businesses by setting aside millions of dollars worth of contracts exclusively for small businesses. Governor Blagojevich signed in to law legislation that significantly increased the number of small Illinois firms eligible to compete for these contracts. The number of categories of goods and services set-aside for small businesses is now up 44%, providing even more opportunities.

The BEP promotes the economic development of diverse businesses - those owned
by minorities, women, and persons with disabilities. In Illinois, State agencies
are encouraged to purchase at least 19% of their goods and services from BEP-certified businesses. BEP certification opens up doors to other opportunities
with public and private buyers looking to diversify their suppliers.
